From “Pare Ko (1995)” to “Walwal (2018),” millennials love those coming of age flicks. Would another matter?

Movie “G! LU” about friendship among rich Pinoy kids is on the way.

Directed by Philip King of REIN Entertainment and coproduced by Arnold Vegafria through ALV Films and Ben Chan, CEO and owner of Bench and Benchingko Films, it stars Ruru Madrid, Derrick Monasterio, David Licauco, Teejay Marquez, Kiko Estrada, Enzo Pineda, Katarina Rodriguez, Kimi Mugford, Sophia Senoron, Chanel Morales, and Michelle Dee.

At the story conference held recently, Philip said it aims to be an inspirational movie.

The title refers to the millennial term “G,” which means “Go,” then “LU” for “Living Ur (life)” though it could else mean “La Union,” the shoot location. While highlighting the beauty of the place, the movie will show the concerns of young people today.

“The group goes on summer vacation during which their friendship strengthens. There will also be a touch of romance and the need to belong will also be tackled,” the director said.

Arnold said they aim to make the movie as realistic as possible so viewers shouldn’t be surprised if the characters swear at certain points. The group thinks “G! LU” might end up getting an

R-18 classification for its mature theme but it’s still early days.

At this point, the cast members are hitting the gym and doing exercise double time as they are expected to don sexy outfits in some of the scenes. There will be surf scenes too so it’s sort of a summer — only its target season is right after that.

Philip admitted assembling the cast composed of young actors is quite challenge. Some of them are

relatively new in acting and most have their schedules full with this and that commitment. Add the fact that many films have not been doing well at the box office lately and it is a recipe for stress.

Still, the director is unperturbed.

“This is a nice story so I’m confident of our movie. And I believe the cast would be able to attract viewers since they are all astig,” he said. “They are all good friends in real life. You can’t fake chemistry and, fortunately, they have it.”

The shoot starts April for release either June or July.

Philip and Arnold said they hope to strike a deal with Netflix for “G! Lu.”
