4 die, 14 hurt in Ilocos road mishaps

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur – Four persons were killed and at least 14 others were injured in separate road accidents in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte on Wednesday.

Sr. Inspector Leonilo Ancheta, the chief of police of Bantay, Ilocos Sur, reported that Vilma Parada, a 45-year-old teacher; and her husband, Ferdinand, a tour guide, died in an accident involving four vehicles on the national highway in Barangay Guimod, Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Wednesday night.

Injured were identified as Alyza Mae Parada and Charise Parada, who were riding in tricycle driven by Ferdinand; Jonathan Tabios, Cherry Anne Tabios and Charmane Nathalie Tabios, occupants of another tricycle; Ian Jay De Leon, Rolly Ramos, Jovan Abella, Gerald Vitacion and BJ Rafanan, who were in a car involved in the incident.

Police reported that car driven by BJ Rafanan hit accidental­ly the two tricycles. The tricycle driven by Ferdinand Rapada then smashed into a parked van.

In Pasuquin, Ilocos, Josephine Moises, 51, and Edmundo Martillano, 61, both barangay treasurers in Burgos, Isabela, died when their Toyota Fortuner slammed into an electric post on the national highway of Barangay 25, Pragata,.

The other passengers of the Fortuner were injured and were identified as Junard Salacup, 23, SK Chairman; Barangay Kagawad Domingo Lastimosa, 44, of Barangay Bacnor West, Burgos Isabela; Elizabeth Bucag, 56, Barangay teasurer and resident of Barangay San Antonio, Burgos Isabela; and Novelito Abaya, 52, the driver and a resident of Barangay Cullalabo, Burgos, Isabela.

Police said the car overshot the shoulder of the road and hit the electric post before ending up in a corn field.
