TODAY, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is celebrating its National Day. Pakistan Day (‘Yaume-Pakistan’), also known as Pakistan Resolution Day and Republic Day, is a public holiday to commemorate the “Lahore Resolution” of 1940 and the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan during the transition of the Dominion of Pakistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on this day in 1956, which made Pakistan the world’s first Islamic republic.

Pakistan is located in South Asia. It is bordered by the Arabian sea between India in the east, Iran and Afghanistan in the west, and China in the north. It possesses a blend of landscapes that varies every few kilometers making it famous for its lofty mountains, lush green valleys, might rivers, beautiful lakes, and amazing wildlife.

Pakistan Day celebration starts with a military and civilian parade in Islamabad, its capital city. These are held in the morning and presided by the President of Pakistan. This year, an airshow will be performed by the Chinese military aerobatics team during the parade. This will be followed by the conferment of national awards and medals. There will be a wreath laying at the mausoleums of Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founding leaders of Pakistan.

The Philippines established diplomatic relations with Pakistan on September 8, 1949, with the opening of a Philippine Consulate, followed in 1956 by the opening of the Philippine Embassy in Karachi. In the Philippines, Pakistan has an embassy in Makati City. Diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries have been strengthened over the years through the exchange of high-level visits. Several agreements have been signed between the two countries. The latest is on the importation of medicines from Pakistan.

We congratulate the people and government of Pakistan led by President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan, on the occasion of its National Day.
