Seungri’s military enlistment postponed due to scandal
Big Bang member Seungri’s military enlistment scheduled today has been postponed for three months due to the growing scandal about his alleged involvement in providing women to potential investors in his company.
South Korea’s Military Manpower Administration (MMA), which supervises conscripts, has announced it has approved Seungri’s request to delay his military service so he can participate in the investigation regarding the matter.
Seungri, 28 (29 in Korean age), is facing other accusations related to the Burning Sun club in Gangnam, Seoul where he served as board member.
He was also part of the KakaoTalk chat group where singer Jung Joonyoung uploaded sex videos of women he filmed without their consent.
YG Entertainment earlier said that Seungri would enlist as an active duty soldier today.
New accusations emerged, linking Seungri to cocaine use and gambling abroad, and providing prostitutes during a birthday party celebration in Palawan in the Philippines in December 2017.
Seungri denied the charges in an interview with Sisa Journal.
“Honestly, I’m in a situation where even if I tell the truth, no one would believe it. Even investigators believe that the contents of the KakaoTalk (chatrooms) are all true and considered evidence. I’m afraid I won’t be judged fairly to be right or wrong because I’m famous and a celebrity,” he said, according to the Korea Times.
Seungri said that he is “sorry to the people of Korea; aren’t I in a position where I can’t complain of the injustice or make rebuttals? Finally, to add one more thing, there was no overseas gambling, nor were there prostitution services.”
He said that regarding gambling abroad based on chat messages between Seungri and a business partner in 2014, he explained that “when I said that I earned money during that time, or when I sent pictures of money, I was just bluffing and lying. I wanted to show off, so I said things that weren't even true.”
