IMUS CITY, Cavite – A 16-yearold boy was charged at the Cavite Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the rape and killing of a five-year-old girl in Naic.

The boy, whose name is being withheld for publication because he is a minor, showed up with his elder sister and brother-in-law at a broadcast journalist’s program and confessed to the crime.

Provincial Prosecutor’s Office Administrator Ava G. Geronimo confirmed that the Naic police charged the boy with rape with homicide the following day.

Naic Police chief Janet L. Arinabo

said the girl’s body was stuffed in a plastic laundry bag that was found by barangay officials and police at the second floor of a vacant housing unit midnight last Saturday. She was naked from the waist down.

Police said the victim had been raped.

The suspect, who was turned over to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), said he surrendered because he feared for his life.

Arinabo said the suspect would eventually be turned over to the Naic Social and Welfare Development Department.

It was the second rape-slay case reported in Naic in five months. Last November, a university student was found buried beside a creek at a subdivision in Barangay Timalan Balsahan.

The 20-year-old victim was reportedly raped before she was strangled to death. Arinabo said at least two suspects were arrested and charged with rape and homicide.

The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that at least 40 rape cases were filed in its jurisdiction in the first 11 weeks of the year.

Rapes rank fifth in terms of cases filed at the Prosecutors Office during the period. The biggest number of cases involved illegal drug (451), followed by theft and estafa (136), child abuse and violence against women and children (146), murder and homicide (75) and rape (40).

There were 202 rape cases filed in 2018.
