Arellano rules cheerdance
The beat goes on for Arellano University’s dance troupe.
The AU Chiefs squad displayed another thrilling performance in copping its third straight NCAA Cheerleading Competition title yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Dancing to the tunes from the 90s era, the Arellano Chiefs Squad executed a near flawless routine that included complicated pyramids and jaw-dropping stunts to wow the judges and best its fiercest rivals that include multiple champion University of Perpetual Help Perps Squad and the Mapua Cheerping Cardinals.
Arellano tallied 229.5 points despite its miscues on the pyramids to also pocket the
top purse.
It was also the school’s fourth title overall, having won the crown the first time in 2014.
Perpetual, gunning for a 10th title overall, settled for being bridesmaid the third straight time with 222.5 points and went home with
while Mapua came in third with 211.5 points.
Performing to the hits of 70s rock band Queen, Perpetual’s performance was marred by injury to Yuto Uriza who twisted his right ankle on a bad landing midway in their routine.
Uriza, who stayed on the mat after the fall for a few moments, continued and finished the performance with pain visible on his face. He was immediately helped off the court after and taken back to their dugout on a wheelchair.
Crowd favorite Letran, which boasts of 10 members from former National Cheerleading Competition champion team Central Colleges of the Philippines, came in fourth with 207 points.
