Glaiza de Castro won’t be in the limelight starting July.

No, she’s not quitting showbiz. Rather, the actress will pursue a music production degree for three months in London.

In an interview, Glaiza said finishing school has always been her dream. Unfortunately, it was put on hold in favor of her showbiz career, which she badly needed to support her family.

In between projects, she managed to enroll in UP’s Open University and took up Associate in Arts until she realized her heart isn’t in it.

Glaiza then transferred to La Salle where she took up a music production course. But just when she thought all is going well, a TV series fell onto her lap and consumed her schedule whole.

“Since I love my career so much and I can’t simply set it aside, I hit the pause button on my education,” she said.

Now that she has time — her series “Contessa” ended few months ago — there’s no stopping Glaiza from pursuing her dream. The singer-actress said her studies will help improve her skills as artist, which she needs to stay relevant in the industry.

“I believe it will expand my skills when it comes to performing. It will become useful in the future. So, here I go…”

Meet the boyfriend

Glaiza has another reason for staying in London: Her boyfriend, Irish surfing instructor David Rainey, resides in the northern island of the country.

She met him in Siargao January last year.

“At first, I hesitated if he really likes me. I was like, ‘Talaga ba? Seryoso ba’to

sa’kin?’” she narrated.

David wasn’t aware she is a celebrity. “We connected through music. Even though he heard I was a celebrity, it seems like it doesn’t matter to him. What’s important to him is that we have chemistry.”

The two became an item last September. They’ve already met each other’s parents.

He is her “answered prayer,” she noted.

“He’s very understanding especially when I’m not in the mood. He makes effort all the time like he sends me handwritten letters. He’s thoughtful. There’s nothing

more I could ask for,” she smiled.

She likes it that David is familyoriented.

“His family is very accommodating and they accept me for who I am, “Glaiza said.

According to her, David would often describe her as “down-to-earth” and “not pa-diva.”

What’s their term of endearment, we asked.

“Wala,” she laughed, adding she teaches him to say “Bebe ko” and “Mars.”

Since David lives in UK, the two are in a long-distance relationship.

Glaiza believes communication is the only way they make it work.

“Sometimes we have a hard time communicating because of the time difference,” she admitted. “But that’s okay. We trust each other. We know all these will be worth it.”

Friendship matters

Talking about her close friend, Angelica Panganiban, who is currently on the verge of “moving on,” Glaiza advises her to try looking for romance outside showbiz.

“And she’s open to that,” Glaiza added.

Angelica’s last “heart break” was over her supposed “failed romance” with Carlo Aquino.

Reiterating she’s also good friends with the actor, Glaiza chooses to stand by Angelica’s side.

“I’m not angry at Carlo. But my heart goes out to Angge (Angelica’s nickname). Nalulungkot ako over what happened to her,” she said.

The 31-year-old also dismissed notions she got “jealous” when Angelica got matching tattoos with Kim Chiu and Bela Padilla.

“I don’t have any issue with that. Everyone is entitled to have their own set of friends. Angelica has hers, I also have my own. There’s nothing to worry about when it comes to that.”

We caught up with Glaiza at the press conference of hair and skin care brand Symply G, which she endorses.
