- By JEL SANTOS

A60-kilometer per hour speed limit will soon be imposed on EDSA and 20 other major thoroughfares in the metropolis, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) disclosed on Friday.

Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago, MMDA spokesperson, said MMDA Regulation No. 19-001 Series of 2019 on speed limit regulation will soon be imposed with violators facing a 1,000 fine.

“It will not be imposed yet. We are still making the public aware of this policy. No instruction yet from the bosses to impose it,” she said.

Pialago said that once the speed

limit regulation is finalized, it will be imposed on the following roads:

Circumferential Roads

1. Recto Avenue

2. Pres. Quirino Avenue

3. Araneta Avenue

4. EDSA

5. CP Garcia Avenue

6. Southeast Metro Manila Expressway

Radial Roads

1. Roxas Boulevard

2. Taft Avenue

3. South Luzon Expressway 4. Shaw Boulevard

5. Ortigas Avenue 6. Magsaysay Boulevard 7. Aurora Boulevard 8. Quezon Avenue 9. Commonwealth Avenue

10. A. Bonifacio Avenue

11. Rizal Avenue

12. Del Pan Road

13. Marcos Road

14. MacArthur Highway

As per the MMDA regulation, buses and trucks will be exempted.

Pialago said the MMDA will imposed the policy, citing overspeeding along major roads in the metropolis in the early morning hours as the cause of many accidents.

“During dawn, many motorists overspeed, which usually cause accidents on thoroughfares. Then, these accidents cause traffic congestion. We are implementing this for the safety of the public,” the MMDA spokesperson said.
