LUXURY DINING IN THE SKY: THE EMIRATES CULINARY STORY

-

With more than 150 cities in 85 countries and territories across the world, Emirates prides itself in being the world’s largest flying restaurant, serving regionally inspired cuisines to millions of customers every year. In 2018, the airline served an estimated 110 million meals, dishing out 209 meals per minute on average across 520 flights every day. This was made possible by their US$ 1-billion investment in catering for that year.

Emirates’ regionally diverse menu features a broad range of traditional local favorites, and its chefs make sure there is food available from every region it flies to. The menu includes cuisines that reflect Australia’s multiculturalism, Asia’s oriental flavors, as well as Middle Eastern flavors and ingredients, catering to Emirates’ diverse passenger mix and representing its global route network.

Emirates continuously invests in highquality ingredients that are sourced through longstanding partnerships worldwide and supporting local suppliers and artisans. Among these ingredients are Persian Feta cheese from Yarra Valley, Australia; olive oil from Monte Vibiano in Italy; Lakrids liquorice from Denmark; and Bateel dates from the United Arab Emirates, to name a few.

Emirates also pays special attention to its sources of coffee and tea. The airline has been serving Dilmah tea across all its cabins for the last 25 years, and over 9.6 million tea bags are used each year with more than 10 tea varieties on offer, including an exclusive blend created for the airline served in First Class called the Emirates Signature Tea.Illy and Nespresso coffee can be found in premium cabins, where espressos and cappuccinos are the most popular requests.

Even Emirates’ collection of wine and spirits is curated with quality in mind, ensuring that the selection for each route is carefully handpicked to complement the menu and include exclusives found only on Emirates, such as the Dom Pérignon 2005 Rosé champagne and 1963 Graham’s Colheita Port.

Emirates also offers child-friendly meals for its youngest customers and dedicated menus for medical or religious meal requirements which are designed with a team of nutritionists and chefs.
