Teen’s confessed murderer charged

- By CALVIN CORDOVA

CEBU CITY—The 43-year-old man who admitted killing Christine Lee Silawan has been charged before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s

Office.

A murder complaint was filed against Renato Llenes last Tuesday in a second case that was filed in relation to the grisly murder of the 16-year-old girl.

A separate murder complaint was earlier filed against the former boyfriend of Silawan, whose body was found in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu, last March 11.

The teenager was arrested by agents of the NBI National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas, while it was the police who arrested Llenes.

While the teenager denied involvement in the crime, Llenes, whom police described as a drug pusher and user, admitted killing the girl the first time they met last March 10.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) headed by Police Col. Limuel Obon, stood as the complainant in the case filed against Llenes after Silawan’s parents refused to sign the affidavit-complaint.

The girl’s parents had insisted the inclusion of their daughter’s ex-boyfriend in the charge sheet.

Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Central Visayas police, turned down the parents’ demand, saying what investigators had was evidence that pins down only Llenes.

Aside from his confession, police were also able to prove that Llenes owned the two three Facebook accounts that he used to befriend Silawan.

When the girl’s parents refused to sign the complaint, Sinas said the police can act as the complainant since “it is a crime against the society.”
