Jodi Sta. Maria gives deeper meaning to beauty

- By STEPHANIE MARIE BERNARDINO

Jodi Sta. Maria is sure beauty comes from within.

This is what she said on what makes her look and feel

beautiful nowadays.

“Aside from the makeup we women can put on every day, I think beauty really comes from within,” she said. “It’s having good disposition in life. It’s having this relationship with God, and also the love and the support and the empowerment that we get from our friends and our family, and those people who love us – that makes a woman bloom and be pretty and beautiful.”

Asked how motherhood changed her perception of beauty, she said it taught her to become selfless.

“It’s no longer about you but about the lives around you,” she continued.

“But that doesn’t mean you will stop taking care of yourself. You have to take care of yourself because you cannot give what you don’t have.”

Dream big

Aside from being a mom to her 13year-old son Thirdy Lacson, Jodi is a graduating Psychology student. And, oh, she’s also a certified acupuncture detoxification specialist and a travel enthusiast. She describes herself as “God’s works in progress.”

How does she manage her time, we asked.

Well, Jodi works only three times a week goes to school once a week, and devotes Sundays to her son and family.

Yet there are other dreams to fulfill.

Jodi is at that point in life where she’s reaching her goals even as she inspires people.

“I'm trying to be the best person I can be, the best version of myself.”

Travel hacks

Jodi was asked about travel hacks and she graciously shared hers.

First, travel light.

“You need to understand that you can’t bring your whole closet when you travel,” she said. “And its okay to repeat your outfits.”

Travelers should also be flexible whether they’re going on a budget or luxurious trip.

For the things that shouldn’t be left behind, it would a medicine kit. “It’s better to be prepared, you never know what would happen,” she explained.

Jodi advised that if a tourist is going to a country which requires proof of vaccination, it would be best to get the shots.

Lastly, the actress urged explorers to always bring their kit containing “personal products, personal brands they use.”

Which country does she want to visit soon?

“I would love to go back to Africa.” Recall that early this year, the 36-yearold actress flew to Africa and had her “me time” there. She visited Johannesburg, had a safari experience in Marataba, and explored and discovered the beautiful island of Benguerra in Mozambique.

“I feel so connected to the place as if it grounds me whenever I’m there,” she continued. “So if you ask what’s my next travel destination after that, it would still

be in Africa. I’m looking at Namibia and Madagascar.”

More than the outside

Bulletin Entertainment caught up with the actress when she was introduced as brand ambassador of local cosmetic line Ever Bilena.

Jodi recalled how she would see her mom use the product in her younger days. She feels great to endorse the product these days.

“It’s an honor, privilege, and blessing to be part of their family,” she said.

So what’s her go-to products when it comes to the line?

“Well, we all know that kilay (eyebrows) is life. So number one is an eyebrow pencil and then number two is lip and cheek tint,” she shared.

She explained why she wants to have those two. First, she wants to make sure that her eyebrows is always on fleek. The tints “help me put a little color on pale face.”

“Never sleep with makeup on so you won’t get pimples or oily skin,” she reminded.

“Observe your skin. If your skin is telling you that you’re not okay with this product then stop using it. Just because it’s fab or it’s ‘uso (in)’ means you should use it. Listen to your body.”

Asked who is her beauty peg and why, it is the late British actress, model, dancer, and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn.

“She’s iconic, she’s very classic, and she’s someone who’s confident. When I look at her as a whole, I could see classic, sophisticated, beautiful, and gracious woman,” she said.

You have to take care of yourself because you cannot give what you don’t have.
