ABS-CBN, GMA 7 disclose ratings

ABS-CBN, the country’s leading media and entertainm­ent company, kept its firm grip on viewers nationwide in April while rival GMA Network managed to hold on to its lead in Urban Luzon. Data from Kantar Media showed ABS-CBN earned an average audience share of 46 percent versus GMA’s 30 percent, to stay in the lead in the national TV ratings. Urban and rural areas continue to be a strangleho­ld for ABS-CBN. The network earned 44 percent to GMA’s 22 percent in Metro Manila; 38 percent compared to GMA’s 29 percent in Mega Manila; 41 percent over GMA’s 33 percent in Total Luzon; 55 percent versus GMA’s 23 percent in Total Visayas; and 54 percent against GMA’s 27 percent in Total Mindanao. ABS-CBN said it led in all time blocks, winning primetime with 48 percent versus GMA’s 31 percent; the morning block (6AM12NN) with an average audience share of 35 percent, compared to GMA’s 29 percent; the noontime block (12NN-3PM) with 47 percent to GMA’s 29 percent; and the afternoon block (3PM-6PM) with 51 percent agaisnt GMA’s 29 percent. For its part, GMA said it maintained its TV ratings lead in Urban Luzon, which accounts for 72 percent of all urban TV viewers in the country. According to the latest data from the industry’s widely-trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measuremen­t, GMA posted 36.6 percent average total day people audience share in the said viewer-rich area, outscoring ABSCBN’s 31.1 percent in April.
