DLSU COLLEGE OF LAW HOSTS MIT-HARVARD PROFESSOR LECTURE
The De La Salle University College of Law (DLSU COL) hosted a lecture by Consensus Building Institute Director and MIT-Harvard Public Disputes Program Associate Director David Fairman entitled, “Alternative Dispute Resolution: From angry publics to strategic collaboration” last March 27, at the University’s Rufino Campus in Bonifacio Global City.
The event, which was organized by DLSU COL’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) class, tackled effective mediation and dispute resolution through the collaborative efforts of stakeholders from various sectors. It also scrutinized the applicability of ADR in the context of disputes that are bridled with tense emotions, issues of differing values, and misinformation. Moreover, the lecture explored how ADR may assist parties in understanding their interests and in reaching mutually gainful solutions and lasting outcomes.
Fairman has a three-decade career in ADR. For 28 years,he has built consensus and enhanced collaboration capacity on complex public and organizational issues internationally and in the U.S. His primary focus is building effective multi-stakeholder partnerships, organizational strategies,and dispute resolution systems to meet challenges of sustainable development.
In addition to Fairman, the lecture was attended by DLSU COL Associate Dean Atty. Virgilio Delos Reyes and DLSU adr professor Atty. Brednda Jay Angeles Mendoza. The Chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy Justice Adolfo S.Azcuna, OIC Executive Director of the Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution State Counsel Bernadette Ongoco, and President and Founding Member of Mediator’s Network for Sustainable Peace Rachel S. Aquino served asractors and discussants for the event.
