More potent shabu discovered in Cebu

- By CALVIN CORDOVA

CEBU CITY – A more potent shabu is circulating in the metropolis. The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) made this discovery after the confiscation of brown-colored shabu worth close to R3 million in Barangay Mabolo last Sunday afternoon.

Packs of suspected shabu weighing 430 grams with an estimated value of R2,924,000 were seized from Marvin Saberon, 32.

Ten of the 18 packs of suspected shabu were color brown, police said.

“It has the same price with the common white-colored shabu but the brown shabu is more potent. We are still checking if these are made locally,” said Police Col.

Royina Garma, chief of the CCPO, without elaborating.

Police said Saberon was monitored for at least a week before he was arrested.

After lying low for a while, drug pushers are back in business, said Garma, citing intelligence reports.

“Those seized in Mabolo are old stock. Pushers had a hard time distributing in the past weeks because of the tighter security since it was election period. The police lied low to take some rest after the election and the drug pushers were quick to take advantage,” said Garma.

Last Sunday’s operation showed that the police have resumed the intensified campaign against illegal drugs, Garma said.

She reiterated her call for barangay officials to regulate the operations of boarding houses and apartments.

“They have to conduct their own profiling and not just rely on the police in monitoring drug peddlers in their areas. They can ask the help of the police if there are suspicious individuals in their areas,” said Garma.

Garma said drug pushers are exploiting minors in the distribution of illegal drugs.

“They are using minors to avoid detection. There are handsome men or beautiful ladies being used as couriers. Some of these couriers are innocent-looking that’s why the people in the community must be very vigilant,” said Garma.
