Sometimes we’d look at each other and we’d laugh for no reason.

Coming from other reel and real love teams in the past, Joshua Garcia and Janella Salvador make a fresh pairing on ABSCBN’s newest teleserye “The Killer Bride.”

Joshua was previously partnered with Julia Barretto, who eventually became his girlfriend but has now broken up. Janella, on the other hand, teamed up with thenboyfriend Elmo Magalona.

“I think this is the right time for Joshua and I’m so happy (it’s finally happening),” Janella said.

The young actor shared he initially thought working with Janella would never come to fruition due to various circumstances.

“I’m happy to work with her because she’s very professional. She likes what she does, she’s focused on her work. I can see the passion in her. Maybe it wasn’t the right

time before because whenever we would have a project, it never happens,” he said.

Janella felt the same way. She’s happy to work with a great actor like Joshua, who, this early in his career, has already gained recognitions.

“Finally, when they pitched this project to me, they were eyeing Joshua, and I said, ‘I hope it’s Joshua.’ Because maybe this is the right project that we can finally work together. Of course, he’s really good,” she said.

Coming from their respective love teams, Joshua and Janella believe they are more prepared to work with each other now as they’ve learned lessons from the past that they bring to their pairing.

Oh, and what’s that, we asked. “It’s important that you can still stand on your own. So, what I have learned from the past is that you don’t have to rely on each other too much. Yes, you are a love team but you still have to grow individually,” Janella said.

They also don’t want to plan too far ahead with regards to other possible teamups in movies and endorsements. For now, they are focusing on “The Killer Bride.”

“If it clicks, we’re gonna be happy, but we don’t want to rely on each other that much. We still want to grow individually as actors,” she added.

For them, being part of a love team can be helpful to anyone’s career. However, they want to break the notion that love teams are exclusive to each other with regards to work.

“Love teams are good to a certain extent. I have nothing against it because it’s really helpful for others. But I’m against the stigma that you can’t work with other people. The reason we’re in this industry is we want to be able to express and play different characters. We meet different people because that’s how you grow and people have different dynamics,” she said.

Joshua agreed, saying one should “never stop dreaming” as he also wants to learn more by working with different actors.

“In our industry, it would be great to be able to work with different actors, so we can grow and learn from the actor we are paired with. It helps me with my growth as an actor and as a person.”

While this is the first time they are working together, there was no awkwardness between them. Their sensuality workshops helped break the ice.

“We were advised to be comfortable with each other because that’s what sensuality is all about. We have to be connected and no awkwardness,” she said.

Joshua thought before that Janella might be unapproachable. So, how does he find her now?

“Makulit, kalog, bungisngis, pareho kaming mababaw ang kaligayahan. Sometimes we’d look at each other and we’d laugh for no reason.”

Are they open to do a kissing scene, that was our follow-up question.

“I thought this is really a good project and the story is beautiful. It’s something different and I feel that it’s the right time. If it’s gonna be needed for the project, why not? If it’s going to make it better,” Janella answered for both of them.

Talking about his role as Elias, Joshua said, “He’s very protective, kind, loving to parents, ayaw ng sinungaling at mangloloko. Personally, it’s bad to bully a person. First of all, you’re not the one who raised that person. For me, bullies and liars are bad. Anyone of us wouldn’t like to be lied to or be bullied, right? We all feel that way.”

Janella is Emma, who is going to be possessed by Maja Salvador’s character Camilla dela Torre as the killer bride.

“The Killer Bride” also talks about bullying as Emma experiences bullying from the people in the community. Camilla’s spirit as the killer bride possesses Emma to seek revenge.

“When I’m being possessed, you also have to see a piece of Maja in me. So we talked about our characters and how we’re gonna do it. This is my most challenging role so far,” she said.
