welcomes change of pace

Showbiz has changed so much. And I will not allow showbiz to change my soul. There are so many things that are different now. The landscape has changed. My fans have been so loving and supportive and I owe them the best of me.

She’s been in show business for 41 years now and at age 53, haron Cuneta has certainly thought of slowing down and spending more quality time with her loved ones.

“When I say ‘semi-retirement,’ once in a while, kakanta pa rin, may movie

pa rin,” she said. “But hindi na ’yung working as much as I used to. I will be more selective in picking the movies and the concerts I will do.”

The Megastar assures fans she won’t pull a disappearing act on them.

“I will still be here in showbiz,” she said. “If you feel that people still love you or appreciate you, then you will always have the reason to come back.”

Sharon admitted she is already physically tired and also “emotionally and psychologically drained” with all that happened in her career. Even before the rise of multimedia, Sharon found massive success in doing movies, TV shows, and music recording.

“Showbiz has changed so much. And I will not allow showbiz to change my soul. There are so many things that are different now. The landscape has changed. My fans have been so loving and supportive and I owe them the best of me.”

The mother of four also recalled the “lowest point” in her life when she fell into millions of debts. Sharon took her frustrations to social media and later on realized how much her problems changed her.

“That was how big my problems were. Now, I’m okay. I’m working and I have invested. So, I had to work nonstop then. I realized that I removed my focus from God and I started focusing too much on my problems. I was becoming the person that I despised, the kind of person I never wanted to be. ‘Bakit ako

naging ganito?’” she said. Things got better when she turned to God and put everything under His control. Now, Sharon has repaid bulk of her debts.

“When I surrendered everything to God, more projects came in and I started losing weight,” she said. Ahem

Everything seems to be turning well for Sharon, as well as her relationships with other people. At the recent Gabay Guro event, many were surprised to see Sharon and former husband Gabby Concepcion perform together onstage.

“Nagulat din kami,” she said. “We were not supposed to sing together. I didn’t even know he’s going to be there. I prepared two songs and a couple of hours before going onstage, a friend of mine asked if he can talk to me. I said time has passed and it’s okay. We’re okay. Just right there and then, Pops and Martin were also there, so lokohan-lokohan. It’s nice because we saw the reaction of the people who still love our team-up,” she said. Icons

Sharon is ecstatic to have a concert with Regine for the first time. Regine is self-confessed “Sharonian.”

“She’s really like my baby sister. I believe her, I believe what she says. I feel Regine’s sincerity. Now, I’m singing with her and she’s a much better singer than I am. This is so much fun because Sharonians and Reginians will be together. We always have love for each other, I have so much respect for Regine. As a singer, bow na bow ako. She’s a very generous performer and co-worker,” she said.

The concert is a dream come true for both Sharon and Regine, who have mutual admiration. Sharon thanked their fans for their support as the most expensive tickets for the two nights have been sold-out.

“When you’re good, you’re generous. Hindi ka nangangain or nagnanakaw sa kasama mo onstage. She has tips and encouragement for me when we perform. It’s just so nice that she’s encouraging. I can’t say enough good things to Regine. More than anything, she has a very good heart. This is a blessing 1 million times over not just because we’re performing together but it’s 1 million times over the whole aspect of my life,” Sharon said.

Directed by Rowell Santiago, “Iconic” will have “Idol Philippines” champ Zephanie Dimaranan and Jeremy Glinoga of “The Voice Philippines” as guest performers. The concert is on Oct. 18 and 19 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
