Rotary Club donates 11.2 M to VP’s ‘Angat Buhay’ program
Vice President Leni Robredo has witnessed the turnover of a check worth 11.2 million for the construction of a girls’ dormitory in La Libertad, Negros through her Angat Buhay program.
Angat Buhay partner Rotary Club of Makati gave the cash donation to build the dormitory in Pacuan National High School last week at Robredo’s office in Quezon City.
The project aims to decrease the absenteeism rate in La Libertad town by providing a halfway home for students, who walk nine to 12 kilometers daily to get to school.
“Umaasa tayong patuloy na magbubunga ng mga ganitong klaseng proyekto ang ating pakikipagtulungan sa kanila (We hope that our partnership with them would continue to result to this kind of project),” Robredo said in her Facebook page.
Public education is one of Robredo’s key advocacies in the implementation of her flagship anti-poverty program.
The Rotary Club of Makati also partnered with the Office of the Vice President for the construction of a dormitory for female students at Sumilao National High School in Bukidnon last year.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo dahil ito na ang pangalawang dorm na maipapagawa natin sa tulong ng Rotary Club of Makati sa ilalim ng Angat Buhay (We are thankful because this would be the second dorm to be built through the help of the Rotary Club of Makati under Angat Buhay),” Robredo said in a post.
Since it was launched in October 2016, Angat Buhay has built dormitories for public schools in far-flung areas, among them were in Balangkayan and Salcedo, Eastern Samar; Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte; and Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
The OVP has partnered with more than 321 private organizations in mobilizing 1343 million worth of resources that benefited around 400,000 families.
Robredo’s office was also able to provide 1598 million worth of medical assistance to more than 45,842 individuals, in partnership with the private sector.
