CEU LAUNCHES ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM ‘KALINGA’

-

To promote actions for environmental conservation, Centro Escolar University (CEU) launched an environmental program dubbed as “Kalinga” which stands for Kalikasan, Ingatan, at Alagaan through the initiative of the Academic Affairs with Dr. Teresa Perez as Vice President, with the collaboration of the Student Affairs Office with Dr. Carlito Olaer as Vice President and Biological Science headed by Dr. Zenaida Los Baños.

Every office in the university, including those of the Administrative Council, teaching, non-teaching, and student councils and organizations was given a plant to keep and take care of. Aside from taking part in addressing global environmental concerns, the plant distribution also serves as a contest. At the end of the semester, the office/council/organization with the healthiest plant showing varied growth and health changes will be declared as winner.

“I would really like to emphasize that each one of us must have a commitment to do something for our environment,” said CEU President Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina.

Dr. Carlito Olaer, Vice President for Student Affairs Office talked about the environmental problems the earth is facing now to make students and employees aware of these problems and encourage them to be actively involved in preventing the wanton devastation of our natural resources. He also shared the proposed plastic-free environment project of the University through eliminating the use of plastics and recycling PET bottles and instead, the students are encouraged to bring their own tumblers. This will in turn reduce solid waste generation and decrease harm to marine life.
