San Sebastian College-Recoletos aims to secure the last Final Four berth when it battles also-ran University of Perpetual Help today in the final day of the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball eliminations at The Arena in San Juan.
The Stags, carrying a 10-7 record, try to punch their ticket to the semis in the match set at 12 noon and complete a turnaround following a 6-12 record the previous season.
“We’re all excited that we have this opportunity,” said San Sebastian gunner Allyn Bulanadi, who is one of the contenders for the league’s Most Valuable Player award. “We’re definitely excited, we’ll go all out to get the win.”
A loss may create complications for the Stags and open the door for the Mapua University Cardinals to force a Final Four playoff on Tuesday at the same venue.
Mapua takes on College of St. Benilde at 2 p.m. carrying a record of 9-8.
Only a miracle could save the Cardinals season as far as coach Randy Alcantara is concerned.
“We can only hope and pray for now. It’s not in our hands, but if given a chance... I hope,” said Alcantara.
Already assured of Final Four spots are defending three-time champion San Beda (17-0), Lyceum of the Philippines University (13-4) and Letran (11-6).
San Beda was facing Lyceum at presstime, with the Red Lions seeking a sweep of the double-round elims and an outright berth to the Finals.
If that happens, Lyceum, Letran and the No. 4 team will contest the other slot in the best-of-three title series via a stepladder format.
