The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has recalled 200 of its 500 personnel assigned at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) back to headquarters after 16 cops were caught sneaking prohibited items at the detention facility reportedly for the inmates.

NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas said the 16 erring officers who reportedly brought in liquor, electronic gadgets, and tobacco products have been disarmed and are now on “floating status.”

“Ngayon nirecall na naming mga tao namin kasi tapos na. Sa ngayon nasa headquarters na sila, undergoing investigation, nadisarm na namin. Kung manghingi sila ng bago, bago na ibigay namin, tutukan talaga na walang magviolate at constant reminders ng mga violations, (We recalled our men back to headquarters because their tour of duty has already ended. We disarmed them. If they (NBP) will request new policemen, we will deploy fresh troops and make sure that no one will commit violations and constantly remind them of the prohibitions),” Sinas told newsmen in an interview at the Manila Police District headquarters during the turn over ceremony of the new Manila Police District chief.

“Once we prove that they have violation, we will file administrative cases. If there is also a violation na legal, then we will also file a legal case,” he added.

But the NCRPO chief refused to identify the 16 officers who reportedly violated prison rules pending investigation.

Sinas also proposed that cops deployed to NBP shall be replaced after 30 days to avoid corruption.

“Ang aking idea, lesson learned, ayaw na naming magtagal ang mga pulis sa loob, kung manghingi man ng additional deployment, ang guidance ko pinakamahaba na 30 days,” Sinas said.
