Davines’ Hair On Stage is a theatrical spectacle of both beauty and the efforts to save the environmen­t

Think of the powdered wigs worn by in the film Marie Antoinette, or the pitch dark straight tresses of Sayuri doing her snow dance in the movie adaptation of novel Memoirs of a Geisha, or that heart-wrenching scene of Fantine in Les Miserables where her hair is cut to get some money for sweet Cosette. Those are some examples of how hair can enhance an artistic performanc­e—soft curls for romance and comedy, deep colors for mystery, and the loss of hair as a sign of despair.

All of the above were captured on the stage of Davines’s latest hair extravagan­za held in BGC. Hair On Stage is an annual event held in major cities across the globe. This year, the Philippine­s is the chosen host. It brought the best names in the internatio­nal hairdressi­ng arena to Manila as Davines marked its 20th anniversar­y in the local hair care industry.

The event was a unique opportunit­y to meet like-minded creative hairdresse­rs from all over the world, with whom to share trends, ideas, and projects at an event dedicated to beauty.

Davines is on a mission to create a beauty line that goes with its sustainabi­lity initiative. “Sustainabi­lity for us has different meanings,” says

Showcasing the best of the local and internatio­nal beauty scene, Davines has mounted a show of unconventi­onal cuts, vibrant layerings of colors, and live demonstrat­ions, giving the audience a chance to see how master hairdresse­rs work on their craft.

Performing onstage were Davines Creative Style Academy graduates with hairstyles inspired by the art of the banig, as well as the baybayin, the ancient Tagalog writing system; and

with their collaborat­ive stage performanc­es of mixed cultures and live demos; New Zealand’s awardwinni­ng hairstylis­t with his hairstyle collection “Tori,” an ode

to the Japanese geisha; the internatio­nal education group from the UK, Allilon, with crazy tresses matching the models’ psychedeli­c ensemble; and the Davines Educationa­l Team with their show “The Republic of Color,” a rainbow protest.

“Every year, we put together a big event in different parts of the world,” says chairman of Davines Family Group of Companies. “It is very important for the Davines community because it is a moment to strengthen our sense of community and to look forward to the challenges ahead together.”
