Maja Salvador shares advice she got from John Lloyd Cruz

- By STEPHANIE MARIE BERNARDINO

Maja Salvador has high regard for seasoned actor John Lloyd Cruz from whom she gets counsel on her career every now and then. In an interview, the 31-year-old dancer-actress shared one he frequently tells her.

“Si Lloydie lagi niyang sinasabi na ‘’Wag mong pakinggan ’yung iba dahil kilala mo ’yung sarili mo,’” she said. “...‘Dahil sila nakikita, lang nila kung ano ’yung gusto nilang makita pero ikaw, ikaw mismo kilala mo kung sino ka.’”

Then again, Maja doesn’t allow online bashers to rain on her parade especially as looking after her family motivates her to go on.

“Bakit ka nagwo-work? Because you want to give them magandang buhay. And gawin ’yung mga dreams niyo as family, like travel together, magkaroon ng ganito o ganyan. ’Yung ganu’n,” she said.

“So, wala ako dito kung nasaan ako, kung wala ’yung pamilya ko. Dahil ’di ba kailangan ng matinding love and support lalo na kung nandito ka sa industriya na ’to.”

Maja has this to say to fans and aspiring artists who want to find success.

“Tulad ng sabi ko ‘Always believe!’ Kahit paulit-ulit ko ng sinasabi sa mga interviews, hindi ako magsasawang sabihin na ‘Always believe sa sarili mo, sa dreams mo, and kay God.’ Kasi ’yung super combination na ’yun, ’pag kinapitan mo talaga at nag-believe ka, it (your dreams) will happen.”

There are a lot of things Maja still wants to achieve, whether in her career or personal life.

But while grateful for all the blessings she has been receiving, the actress hopes that in the future, she’ll have a “complete family.”

“Coming from a broken family — separated mom and dad ko — ang super goal ko is hopefully pagdumating na ako du’n sa next level, ’pag ready na ako, sana maging super mom ako na alam ko how to take care and handle my family, ’yung ganu’n. Na kung paano ako minamahal ngayon, sana ’yung love na nare-recieve ko eh kapag meron na akong sariling family eh ganu’n din mabibigay ko.”

Speaking of settling down, how does boyfriend businessman Rambo Nuñez help her get through life’s challenges?

“Si Rambo as in sobrang such a good guy na alam mo ’yung everyday akala mo alam mo na ’yung takbo ng life pero meron kang nakakausap like him na mas mag-inspire sayo,” she said.

“Kunwari may mga sitwasyong hindi mo alam o bago and then magbibigay siya ng advice pero lagi siya ’yung balanse lang. Parang ‘Oh I give you advice pero it’s up to you if susundin mo or hindi kasi at the end of the day, ikaw sa sarili mo ang magdedesisyon,’” she continued.

Maja admitted she has seen a lot to realize that “exciting ang life!” “Kailangan mo lang maging strong dahil ang daming mga bagay na gugulat sayo. May mga surprises ang life na minsan maganda, minsan hindi pero ’yung mga hindi (magagandang pangyayari) du’n ka magiging strong. ’Yung magagandang sitwasyon na mangyayari sayo, ’yun ’yung babalanse sa pagkatao mo,” she added.

Maja is thankful she was able to take some time off last month with Rambo during her birthday vacation in Havana, Cuba. She considers the trip her “prize” for all the hard work she had put in lately. “’Di ba ganu’n naman, you need to balance everything. Kung ikaw todo ka mag-work, kung you have extra time why not enjoy it and travel ka kung saan ’yung dream destination mo,” she said.

So, was it super special, we teased. “Of course! I’m with my special someone and it’s my birthday. And may isang malaking regalo pa si God which is nanalo ako ng Best Actress sa Asia Contents Awards (at Busan, South Korea),” she related. “Parang ang daming nangyari so sobrang parang worth it, sulit na sulit ’yung vacation namin.”

Maja is the latest endorser of Jollibee Super Meals. The Kapamilya actress revealed she is set to do a film next year.

‘Always believe sa sarili mo, sa dreams mo, and kay God. Kasi ‘yung super combination na ‘yun, ‘pag kinapitan mo talaga at nagbelieve ka, it (your dreams) will happen.’
