‘Signal Rock,’ ‘Liway’ top nominees at 37th Luna Awards
Two independently-produced films earned the nod of critics, each landing several nominations at the 37th Luna Awards. Chito Roño’s “Signal Rock” scored nine nominations including best picture and best director. Starring Christian Bables, it is an acclaimed drama based on a true story set in the 1990s. It is about a boy who regularly climbs rock formations in his hometown just to communicate with his sister living abroad with his outdated phone.
“Liway” got nine nods, including best actress for Glaiza de Castro. Set in the waning days of the Marcos dictarorship and directed by Kip Oebanda, “Liway” is told from the point of view of Dakip, a boy living in a prison camp housing both criminals and members of the New People’s Army.
“BuyBust” has the second most number of nominations, eight. Lead star Anne Curtis is nominated in the best actress category.
The awards night for the 37th Luna Awards is set for Nov. 30 at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater in Taguig.
