Reading Made More Fun
Festive Mall promotes reading among children through Bookabulary campaign
Reading provides an education of its own. If there is one effective way to expand a child’s horizons and imagination in a controlled setting, this would be it. Through reading, children are brought from one scenario to the next as they follow the adventures in the book’s pages.
Given the mental stimulation reading elicits, it brings a great deal of advantage to children’s development as they are introduced to new concepts during their formative years. But the rise of the internet and the increasing dependence on gadgets have posed a threat on this as children are now more interested in what’s on the screens.
To renew such enthusiasm for reading among them, Festive Mall Alabang partners with Early Childhood Education Division (ECED) and WS Pacific Publications, Inc. in launching its literacy campaign called Bookabulary.
Introduced last Oct. 15, the monthlong event adapts A Festival of Learning as its theme. The Grand Carousel area at the mall’s second level has been transformed into a cozy nook to provide a more conducive reading atmosphere to the young readers.
Interested children are treated to the campaign’s activities like My Art My Story where they indulge themselves in live storytelling and arts and crafts, the WS Publishing Book Sale where they can choose to buy from a huge selection of books from WS Pacific Publications, and the Share-A-Book where old books can be donated for the benefit of the Muntinlupa Public Library.
This campaign doesn’t only aim to promote literacy and inculcate the love for reading in kids, but also wishes to instill good values formation. With the help of mentors and guides assigned in the venue, children are taught good manners and right conduct through the selection of books that are available.
“As we cultivate the love of reading at this early stage, we are also investing for their future as a good listener and as a good leader of the society. If we care for our children, we have to invest into the development of one of their fundamental skills, which is reading,” says Robert
Espanola Narisma, who is the events and preparations head for ECED.
