PH singer Reymond Sajor stages comeback via Indonesian talent search
“Philippine Idol” grand finalist Reymond Sajor added another feather to his cap by landing in the Top 6 in Indonesian talent search “Golden Memories Asia.”
Asked how he got into the competition, Reymond said, “I auditioned in the Philippines. My 5thGen group mate, RJ Buena, told me about it. The competition is open only to singers 30 years old and above. They titled the contest as such because contestants can only perform songs released from year 1970 to 2000, and these should be famous in Indonesia.”
Reymond was a member of 5thGen. The members are multi-medalists in the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held yearly in the US. A year after his stint in the first idol franchise in the country, Reymond came home as the 2007 WCOPA Grand Champion Vocalist of the World.
How has joining contests helped, maybe even shaped, his mindset when it comes to singing?
“I’ve learned to be positive all the time. To forget the past so that new and great things will come to you. I also learned that it’s good to lift everything up to God but not to forget to do your part, too. You have to do your best all the time and value all the people who are supporting you.”
Reymond had a meet-and-greet gathering with his Indonesian and Indonesia-based Filipino fans recently.
“They’re sweet and once they like you, they will be loyal to you. It was an overwhelming, touching experience because they were all crying. The Indonesians wanted me to stay and pursue my career there.”
While there, Reymond was able to meet Indonesian celebrity SoimahPancawati.
“Soimah is a big star in Indonesia. She’s the female version of Vice Ganda. She’s very funny and entertaining and she’s the reason I had so much fun onstage. She’s also the reason why Indonesians welcomed RJ and me very warmly. I will never forget the mini teleserye or what they call sinetron onstage. That was the first time I had to do some acting on a live television show. Those experiences really taught me a lot of things as a performer,” Reymond wrote on Instagram.
Reymond has just released the song “Road Trip,” and recorded two of his own compositions.
‘“Road Trip’ is pop, a new type of music for me,” the balladeer said. “I will soon do a video for the song.”
