postpones pregnancy plans due to health concerns
The 55-year-old comedy actress Ai Ai delas Alas and husband Gerald Sibayan are no longer trying to have a baby for now because of her autoimmune condition and some allergies.
Saddened by this realization, Ai Ai pointed out it’s not only her well-being they are considering but that of the baby’s.
“Kasi minsan nastress din ako, kasi minsan nagkakaroon ako ng biglaang sakit. Eh ’pag buntis ka ’di ka naman pwedeng uminom ng gamot eh,” she said.
“Tsaka kasi ’di ba ’yung katawan ko, organic food na lang ang tine-take.
So ’pag nasasapian ako ng synthetic (na gamot) eh nagkakasakit ako. So kawawa naman ’yung baby if ever magkasakit ako habang pinagbubuntis ko siya.”
The two are not scrapping having a baby altogether, though.
“Pansamantala lang. Kumbaga may aayusin.”
Later, however, the comedy actress said, “Sinasabi ko lang ’yun kasi niloloko ko sarili ko, niloloko ko kayo. Pero in real life wala na, hindi na.”
For four years now, Ai Ai has only been eating organic foods in order to control her psoriasis, a common skin condition that speeds up the life cycle of skin cells.
She said that prior her “organic lifestyle,” her monthly maintenance for psoriasis costs R200,000 per injection.
Despite their decision, Ai Ai and
Gerald try to keep each other’s spirits up.
“We tell each other, ‘Hayaan
mo, God is good! May mangyayari at mangyayari (na maganda)…’”
Are they open to surrogacy? Or maybe even IVF?
“Tingnan natin,” she answered. “Okay din naman pero hanggat maari, try natin ng ako (ang magbubuntis).”
She added: “Kahit anong paraan, basta kailangan may baby kami.”
Flying
On a lighter note, Ai Ai talked about her experience riding an airplane flown by her soon-to-be-licensed pilot husband.
She admitted feeling “stressed” doing so because of her fear of riding an airplane.
“Marunong naman akong mag swimming in case, pero hindi naman ako papabayaan ni Darl. Talagang ginalingan naman niya. In fairness sa kanya ginalingan niya mag-maneho. I love Darl!” she said. “First time ko sa kanya (sumakay na siya ang driver), kasi ’di ba nga ayoko kasi na shokot akis (takot ako). Pero sabi niya ‘Sige na, sumakay ka na para
ma-experience mo.’ Sabi ko ‘Okay.’”
Bulletin Entertainment caught up with Ai Ai during her contract renewal with Hobe, a brand by Marikina Food Corporation which is known for noodles. The owner Bobby Co said that they’ve had the comedy actress for years now, and from the start of their partnership, sales have gone up at least 30%. The company supports Ai Ai’s advocacy.
