Another LPA forming

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored by the weather bureau since the weekend has already dissipated but another LPA has formed off the Philippine Sea on Wednesday.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Ariel Rojas said a new LPA was estimated 410 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The weather disturbance may not develop into a tropical cyclone and could eventually dissipate within 24 hours. The LPA is not expected to have a direct impact on Mindanao, he said.

For now, the prevailing weather systems across the country are the tail-end of cold front, northeast monsoon or "amihan," and localized thunderstorms.

The tail-end of cold front or the boundary between the cold amihan and warm easterly winds could bring cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains and thunderstorms over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

The amihan may bring cloudy skies with light rains over Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Apayao. Expect occasional rush of cold amihan wind in the coastal and mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, Batangas may experience light rains due to the combined effects of Taal Volcano's activity and the amihan. The possibility of reduced visibility and mudflow during ashfall and occurrence of light to moderate rains remains. There is also a potential for isolated thunderstorms in the vicinity of the volcano.
