DPWH, Villar group turn over mobile quarantine rooms
Shipping containers repurposed to serve as mobile quarantine rooms for suspected COVID-19 patients have been deployed at the premises of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex in Pasay City.
The cube containers converted into mobile rooms were turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Villar Group of Companies to the CCP Monday.
“Ten 20-foot long shipping containers are at the CCP complex undergoing final refurbishing works by the DPWH National Capital Region headed by Director Ador Canlas,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.
“The 10 units of shipping containers can accommodate a total of 40 individuals,” Villar added.
The mobile rooms, Villar explained, can be used as additional COVID-19 isolation health facilities or may also function as alternative living quarters for medical doctors and staff on duty at hospitals or at mega quarantine facilities operating at the Philippine International Convention Center, World Trade Center and Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Based on the design plans, a 20-foot container can be divided into four fully-airconditioned rooms for sleeping with separate toilet and bath, and aluminum window frame for proper ventilation.
“More than providing facilities for sleeping, medical personnel need not travel from hospitals and/or health facilities to their residences putting at risk the health and safety of their respective families due to their regular exposure to COVID-19 patients,” Villar said.
