Tragic end for young pregnant woman in Iligan City

- By BONITA L. ERMAC

ILIGAN CITY – A five-month old pregnant woman was killed when she was bumped by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while she was crossing the pedestrian lane along Roxas Avenue-Villaverde in front of a popular mall here last Friday, May 8.

Ivy Caturay, 23, was on her way to buy medicines when she was ran over by the vehicle at around 5 p.m.

According to her father Albert, Ivy dreamt of becoming a teacher, and was supposed to have graduated in March this year.

Ivy’s unborn child would have also been Albert’s first grandchild.

Albert said their family had pinned their hopes on Ivy finishing her studies, and becoming a teacher that they even pawned their home in Wao town in Lanao del Sur to come up with her tuition fee.

“Si yak asian gaming in a asa han nam aka tap os, ta po sn gay on anon a an gaming hi hint a yin na hindi na na min si ya ma asa han ”, Albert said.

So devastated was Albert that he could not even bear to look at his daughter inside the coffin.

According to Ivy’s mother Maria Elena, her daughter went to Iligan City with high hopes to tide her family through poverty.

She worked while she studied, and initially finished a hotel and restaurant management course with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Despite finishing the course, Ivy decided to forge on, and studied further to become a teacher.

And March 27 would have been the day when that dream would come true.

But this was sidelined when the graduation rites were postponed due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

It would have also been Ivy’s chance to introduce her baby’s father, a soldier, to the family, and present their plans to the family about their wedding.
