The Spirit of truth… will take from what is Mine

-

The unity of persons — between the Father and Jesus and between Jesus and the Spirit — also reflects the reciprocal oneness of being and mutual sharing of graces. Jesus declares, “Everything that the Father has is mine,” and He repeats this in His priestly prayer, “Everything of Mine is Yours and everything of Yours is Mine” (Jn 17:10). This divine sharing within the Holy Trinity will be made manifest in the sharing of Jesus to all His believers.

Jesus shares with humanity the gift of sonship with the Son of God Himself; through Jesus and His Spirit we are adopted by the Father and are called “children of God” (Jn 1:12)—for that is what we are (cf 1 Jn 3:1). It is through the Spirit of truth that we recognize God as Father. “As proof that you are children, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’ ” (Gal 4:6).

Gospel • JOHN 16:12-15

Jesus said to His disciples:

“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when He comes, the Spirit of truth, He will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is Mine; for this reason I told you that He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you.”
