How faith moves Kris Bernal forward

- By STEPHANIE MARIE BERNARDINO

Actress and business owner Kris Bernal is not the type to dwell on negative things. In an email interview with Bulletin Entertainment, she talks about the mindset that keeps her going amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation:

How has the pandemic changed your perspective in life?

“So far, I just find ways to adapt and thrive, even with all these challenges and limitations thrown at me. It’s a hard situation because you need to be brave, but inside, you’re also fearful. In times like these, God shows me that while life is uncertain, my trust is in Him.”

How do you use your time productively during community quarantine?

“This habit works well for me: Before I hit the bed, I like to take the time to plan for the day ahead to keep myself organized and focused. It helps me not to feel lethargic and look forward to my days!

“I also learned to develop my video editing skills for my vlogs and I enjoy cooking lately because I get to see my own skills in it.”

How are your businesses doing? What are the pros and cons of having those at this time?

“I promised my employees both for my two businesses, House of Gogi and SHE Cosmetics, that they will still receive their full monthly salaries during this crisis. Tinuturing ko itong part of my donations and tulong na rin sa kanila. In-inform ko rin sila that I’m just a message away for any assistance/help they need. All in all, I have 15 of them.

“I look forward to reopening para naman makabawi ako, kasi ang laki talaga ng nawala ko sa negosyo because of this challenging time. May iba’t-ibang ways naman si Lord para bumawi sa losses namin. I trust in His ways.

Please talk about the experience of giving out food to street sweepers and security guards. How did that start?

“During ECQ, I was able to donate to different fundraising and individual groups, including Kapuso Foundation, Lawyers for Doctors, Fashion For Frontliners, and Unitent We Stand PH, among others.

“I’ve sent out more than 300 PPEs to various hospitals with the help of our family doctor.

“I’ve been donating also to the frontliners assigned to our village including the security guards, street sweepers, garbage collectors, even yung magtataho at nagtitinda ng ice cream na umiikot sa amin.

“Of course, I also share my blessings with my relatives who need help. I believe that my way of helping during this situation is to stay home, pray, and donate online.”

What did you learn about yourself while under community quarantine?

“I developed a “learning mindset” to love to learn for its own sake and to know that I don’t have all the answers. I make use of my time in a day to do not just one thing, I cook, workout, strategize with my business, make vlogs, among others.

“My personal self-education program is made up of a combination of books, online courses, podcasts, and YouTube. I love how I can meet other people who think like me and have the same passion and challenges as me.”
