New on Netflix in June

- By AJ SIYTANGCO

We’re coming awfully close to ending the first half of the year, and still the quarantine restrictions are in effect, keeping most of us indoors, and out of harm’s way. With some exceptions such as necessary chores and, for a slowly growing number of people, work, everyone is expected to stay at home and help flatten the curve.

With the world learning to adapt to the new normal of semi-forced online life doing most everything from home, online streaming has become almost a necessity for many people, as a source of entertainment and relaxation. You can binge-watch a favorite show if you have nothing more important to deal with or you can sneak in an episode or two between duties to help keep your spirits up.

Netflix has been a great help at keeping everyone sane and from climbing up the walls while stuck at home for the duration.

This June, even more offerings are heading our way. These offerings are top quality, varied and fresh as ever to keep everyone entertained.

Filipino comedy sensation Jo Koy is returning to Netflix on June 12 with another special, this time set in Manila “Jo Koy: In His Elements” sees him celebrating his heritage through comedy. Holding the show on his native soil also lets him highlight Manila culture.

Joining him are more Fil-Ams making their names known abroad, such as the famed breakdancer, Ronnie, Grammy-award winning producer !llmind, singer/songwriter, Iñigo Pascual, and fellow comedians Andrew Lopez, Joey Guila and Andrew Orolfo.

For the kids, both young and old, we will be getting “A Whisker Away” on June 18. The whimsical tale follows young Miyo Sasaki, who through magic transforms into a cat just to get close to a boy she really likes. Living a double life as a human and a cat can be fun, but eventually, it gets a little more complicated.

“A Whisker Away” is directed by Junichi Satoh (“Sailor Moon”) and Tomotaka Shibayama, and written by Mari Okada, known for the other successful anime movies “The Anthem of the Heart” and “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.”

Add to that are returning shows “Queer Eye: Season 5” and “13 Reasons Why,” both returning on June 5. Also coming on the 19th of June is season 2 of supernatural show “The Order,” followed the next day by “The Politician.”

Some old favorites are making their arrival as well. On June 24, we get “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” and the last chapter in a classic trilogy, “Back to the Future III.”

For the K-Drama enthusiasts (you all know who you are, admit it) we have several incoming this month, with “My Shy Boss” already streaming, and “The Tale of Nokdu,” “Angel’s Last Mission,” “My Fellow Citizens,” “Lovely Horribly” and “Doctor Prisoner” all dropping on the 15th.
