‘Parasite,’ Jung Hae-in win at 56th Grand Bell Awards

The critically acclaimed film “Parasite” won the top prizes at the 56th Grand Bell Awards, also called Daejong Film Awards, held recently in Seoul.

“Parasite,” which won best picture at the 92nd Academy Awards last February, scooped five awards: best film, best director for Bong Joon-ho, best supporting actress for Lee Jung-eun, best screenplay for Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won, and best music for Jung Jae-Il.

Lee Byung-hun won best actor for “Ashfall” while Jung Yu-mi bagged the best actress award for “Kim Ji Young: Born 1982,” a film she co-starred with

Gong Yoo that was released last October. Jin Seon-kyu won best supporting actor for “Extreme Job.”

“Thank you very much. ‘Ashfall’ is a disaster-themed film, but I think the reality we are living in is more like a disaster than any movie,” said Lee Byunghun in his acceptance speech, reported Osen.

He added, “So even though I was not new to awards ceremonies, I feel especially strange and awkward today. It seems like it has been a long time since everyone went to the cinema to watch movies comfortably. Now it’s hard for people to have fun watching movies at the cinema, so I hope that the day when I can cry, laugh, and be touched with

the characters in movies like before will come soon.”

“Something in the Rain” star Jung Hae-in bagged the best new actor award for “Tune in for Love” and Jeon Yeo-bin won best new actress for “After My Death.”

Kim Bo-ra of the film “House of Hummingbird,” which won best feature film in the 69th Berlin International Film Festival in 2018, won best new director while 91-year-old actor Shin Young-kyun, who won his first Grand Bell best actor award in 1962, was given the achievement award.

Other winners are: “The Battle: Roar to Victory,” best cinematography; “Extreme Job,” best planning; “Svaha: The Sixth Finger,” best lighting and best art direction; “Exit,” best editing; “The Great Battle,” best costume design; and visual effects, “Ashfall.”

The awards ceremony was held without an audience because of social distancing rules imposed due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
