Earth Day Jam 2020 pushes on
Earthday Jam Foundation will continue with its annual celebration by holding an online concert. Foundation head and singer-songwriter Lou Bonnevie admitted the COVID-19 situation and community quarantine prove to be their biggest challenge in its 20th year.
“It took a while (before we decided to go on) because we did not believe live concert events can be replaced,” said she in a statement sent to Bulletin Entertainment. “There are certain magnificent energies that exist between the performers onstage and the audience that can only be experienced face to face.”
In the end, they opted to be creative and think positive.
“Online music has its advantages,” she allowed. “It has no space or time limit so you don’t need transportation to witness the event. Less travel will lessen carbon footprints so that’s a big help to the environment.”
She added audiences should think of the concert as interacting with friends. It’s like when you video call them and you see each other up close, on your phone screens or computer monitors.
Lou believes music artists have the power to unite and uplift people through their works or performances that’s why the show will go on.
“Earth Day Jam Sessions” is on June 27, 8:30 p.m. on the Facebook Page of the Earthday Jam Foundation. The live acoustic performances of the following artists will be streamed live: Autotelic, Gloc-9, Ice Seguerra, Jaya, Karylle, Kiara of Imago, Lirah, Nyoy Volante, Rouge, Sandwich, The Itchyworms, Zsa Zsa
Padilla, and Lou herself.
Aside from the concert, the Earth Day Jam Foundation will launch the songwriting contest “Kantalikhasan.” DepEd learners and teachers and youth leaders from all over the Philippines will join via Zoom.
The competition is open to all youth 30 years and below with themes of nature, environment and green practices in all genre of music –from pop to rap, to rock or folk. Cash prizes will be given and a chance for collaborating with popular Pinoy artists.
Viewers will also be given a glimpse of the green lifestyle of several celebrity families as Danica Sotto and March Pingris along with Oyo Boy and Kristine Hermosa-Sotto. They will discuss their earth friendly activities during the quarantine and will share some tips to young families via Zoom.
Former mayor and environmentalist Edward Hagedorn with representatives from the Earthday Network will give advice on the most critical environmental issues.
“Everybody has a key role when it comes to conserving the environment. We can protect Mother Earth through simple things like conserving water, keeping the air we breathe clean and managing an almost zero trash environment. Our viewers will be quite surprised to witness that with the green lifestyle of our guests,” said Lou.
The Foundation, with hosts Pam Nieva and Midi Gentica, will appeal to viewers for donations. Proceeds will be used to sustain the group’s campaign including the songwriting contests, art lessons, tree planting and music jamming.
