IT’S ALL SYSTEMS GO WITH EVERYBODY’S FAVORITE HATCHBACK

-

There are few things more reassuring than getting back to things we have always loved. Put on that list the return of the ubiquitous Toyota Wigo, the car that made hatchbacks cool and practical again. Afterit was first introduced in 2014, it was almost everywhere on Philippine streets.

Today, six years after its initial launch and after its last milestone in 2017, the Toyota Wigois back and it’s got a new look: larger trapezoidal grilles, and aggressively styled bumpers complemented with handsome new headlights made even more imposing with blacked-out rear combination lamps. Machine-cut design alloy wheels complete the new Toyota Wigo’s balanced combination of sporty style and practicality. Moreover, the 2020 Toyota Wigo lineup stars a new TRD S, a sporty and exciting grade for those who love the Wigo and crave an adventurous driving experience.

And the way the Toyota Wigo came back. It was at the tail-end of a months-long quarantine in Metro Manila – the world’s longest by far –and amidst several limitations in mass transportation. Social distancing protocols didnot deter Toyota Motor Philippines from finding ways to share the new Toyota Wigo with an eager public last June 15. The company decided to unveilthe 2020 Toyota Wigo through the company’s first online launch, streamed live in an interactive digital reveal to excited audiences everywhere. It was the perfect vehicle – literally and figuratively – in a time of limited mobility and increasing safety concerns. For Toyota, the new Wigo was the answer for several car buyers: the budget-conscious, the first-time buyers, and those looking to buy a second car for other family members.

The new Toyota Wigo is perfect for these buyers. It’s easy to use and fun to drive: the mid and top-tier models nowhave keyless entry and a push-start system to make entering the vehicle and starting it up free of the hassle of fumbling for keys. Their new airconditioning system features an LCD touch panel for more precise control, and a new touchscreen infotainment system with Apple carplay and Android Auto compatibility with voice command feature for the TRD grade.

Moreover, it’s now easier to park than ever. In addition to its compact dimensions (3660x1600x1520 for all except the TRD grade, which is a little longer at 3700x1600x1520),

the new Toyota Wigo now has rear sonar and a back camerato help even the beginners park with confidence. Also, the mirrors can now fold with the press of a button. These new features are added to the Wigo’s new mid- and top-of-the-line trim levels, G and TRD S.

For safety, the Wigo is equipped with dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock brake system (ABS), and rear parking sensors as standard across all trim levels. The TRD S even includes a Digital Video Recorder (dash cam) for added safety and peace of mind. All grades come with Power Door Lock and a new instrument panel design for easier access to controls.

For those who are looking for a little more excitement in their Toyota Wigo, the TRD package comes with front and two-tone rear chin spoilers, TRD-S badge and decals, and a side skirt and in an exclusive yellow SE color not offered in any other trim.

Powering the Wigo is a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine paired with a choice of a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. That same engine allowed it to achieve an average fuel consumption of 25.19 km/L (A/T) in the highway, according to tests conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE) in 2017.

Inside, fans of this best-selling hatchback will discover more pleasant surprises with the redesigned seats and chrome accents to match the sportier exteriors. All grades of the new Wigo come in white or gray metallic, while the G MT and E grades have an added silver metallic option. The G AT has a black and an orange metallic option, while the TRD S has an exclusive yellow SE version.

“The New Wigo remains an iconic car that offers the same familiar feeling of practicality and reliability, but made more advanced, more convenient, safer, and more fun with its sleek and sporty TRD Styling,” said TMP President, Atsuhiro Okamoto, during his welcome remarks.

The Wigo starts at Php568,000 for the E trim with a manual transmission. The Wigo G M/T is priced at Php 623,000 while the G A/T is priced at Php658,000. The top-ofthe-line Wigo TRD S is available only in A/T but is available in a variety of colors, including the exclusive Yellow SE. It’s priced at Php700,000.

The new Wigo is now available at Toyota dealerships nationwide. It can also be viewed via Toyota’s Virtual Showroom that offers 360 view inside and outside, easy payment plans, as well as referral to a nearby showroom and sales agent, all from the comfort of your own home.
