June Mar, son of Cebu, appeals to townmates
San Miguel Beer center June Mar Fajardo, the reigning six-time PBA MVP, is calling on his fellow Cebuanos to follow government health guidelines to stop the spread of coronavirus.
President Rodrigo Duterte ordered early this week to put Cebu City back on a lockdown until June 30 after cases of COVID-19 reached the 5,000 mark.
Duterte appointed Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, a retired Philippine Army general, to oversee the implementation of protocols of the government through the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
Fajardo, who is from Pinamungahan – a three-hour drive from the capital – said it saddens him to see that Cebu is now the “hot zone” in the country’s fight against COVID-19.
Kaya sana sumunod na lang tayo sa panawagan ng gobyerno,” he said.
Fajardo’s family, particularly his parents, Marites and Bonifacio, are doing well in Pinamungahan.
Though their town is far from the city and has less COVID-19 cases, he said he is worried on their safety.
Every day kami nagtatawagan ng parents ko,” Fajardo said, adding that his other relatives in the Cebu City are also doing well despite the pandemic.
