3.3 M Filipino workers displaced by pandemic

The number of workers that have been displaced so far by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and community lockdowns is now at 3.3 million.

Based on the latest Job Displacement Monitoring Report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) released Wednesday, a total of 3,392,772 workers have been affected by the implementation of flexible work arrangements (FWAs) and temporary closure

(TC) of 119,823 establishments from March 2020 to October 11.

Of the 119,824 establishments, 35,328 implemented flexible work arrangements affecting 1,455,484 workers.

The more than 86,000 establishments that implemented temporary closure, on the other hand, affected 2,064,678.

The report also showed that a total of 282,378 workers have been displaced nationwide 14,880 establishments from January to present.

According to DOLE, majority of these establishments or 13,369 reduced workforce affecting 253,876 workers in the process.

The 1,511 establishments that permanently closed affected 28,502 workers.

The National Capital Region registered the most number of displaced workers in the country with 151,664 followed by Calabarzon with 43,472 and Central Luzon with 28,673.

The number of displaced workers in other areas are: Central Visayas with 24,750; Western Visayas with 6,146; Cordillera Administrative Region with 5,688; Davao Region with 4,122; Northern Mindanao with 4,020; Ilocos Region with 3,197; Soccsksargen with 2,699; Eastern Visayas with 2,008; Cagayan Valley with 1,737; Bicol Region with 1,378; Caraga with 1,349; Mimaropa with 1,232; and Zamboanga Peninsula with 243.

Most of the displaced workers were from administrative and support service with 58,087 and the manufacturing sector with 38,850.
