111.4-mil­lion mar­i­juana de­stroyed in Benguet

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet — A lady of­fi­cer led the de­struc­tion of a to­tal of 111.4 mil­lion worth of mar­i­juana plants, which the po­lice up­rooted and seized from eight plan­ta­tion sites in the moun­tain­ous area in Ki­bun­gan, Benguet.

Benguet Provin­cial Of­fice Direc­tor Col. Elmer Ra­gay said Benguet Provin­cial Mo­bile Force Com­pany Head Lt. Joyce Gayaden was lead­ing a foot pa­trol when they found eight mar­i­juana plan­ta­tions in Si­tio Batan­gan, Barangay Ta­cadang, Ki­bun­gan, Benguet on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 15.

Ra­gay said Gayaden im­me­di­ately called for a back-up team from the Benguet Provin­cial Of­fice and Philip­pine Drug En­force­ment Agency (PDEA), then pro­ceeded to erad­i­cate the il­le­gal plants.

Ra­gay said, a to­tal of 13,380 pcs of fully grown mar­i­juana plants, 67,600 mar­i­juana seedlings, and 20 ki­los of mar­i­juana stalks, amount­ing to 111.48 mil­lion were de­stroyed and burned on­site, while 20 ki­los of mar­i­juana stalks will be brought to Camp Ma­jor Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet for the cer­e­mo­nial burn­ing. No per­son was ar­rested dur­ing said op­er­a­tion.
