The National Federation of Hog Farmers (NFHF) is gunning for a Guinness World Record on March 1 by serving around 300 pork dishes for the Hog Festival 2024 in line with the National Pig Day Celebration.

In a press conference on Thursday, February 22, Rodolfo Ona, Vice President of NFHF, said the festival will start on March 1 and will last until March 5.

“We wanted to kick off the celebration with the Guinness World Record attempt for the most number of pork dishes on display and to be served afterwards,” Ona said.

“Sama-sama po nating suportahan, tulungan ang ating hog industry na makabangon muli, and let's all help to set a new record na makapag-serve po tayo ng most number of local pork dishes (Let's support together, help our hog industry to rise again),” said Mela Quintos-tee of Cooking Nanay, also a hog raiser.

The festival aims to reintroduce the products of local hog farmers who are recovering from the onslaught of the African Swine Fever (ASF).

It also aims to promote Filipino pork as well as support allied industries in agriculture.

The NFHF said that the first day of the festival will be held in Quantum Skyview, Upper Ground B. Gateway 2, in Araneta City, where they will serve around 300 pork dishes with no duplicate for the world record attempt.

It said that the attempt to serve the most pork dishes will be the first for Guinness.

It added that the Guinness World Record has a google live sheet where the served pork dishes will be submitted and sorted out to check if the dishes are unique and have no duplicate through the cooking method or through ingredients.

Meanwhile, the second and third days of the festival will showcase popup stores that will sell agricultural products.

A degustation by nine celebrity chefs will be held on the fourth day of the festival, March 4, at the Novotel in Araneta City. It aims to encourage all the chefs to use local pork that is easily available and to show support for the local hog industry.

A hog farming and livelihood conference will be conducted on the last day of the festival at Riverbanks, Marikina City.

The NFHF is a federation that was established in 1990 by local swine farmers comprising 23 national pig associations across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The group’s advocacy is to promote food security, safety, and sovereignty through projects that support the livelihood of local swine farmers.
