- By RICHIELYN CANLAS

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-pangan launched “Rampa Manila 2” with the hope of reviving the former label of Divisoria as the country’s fabric and textile capital and its reputation as the go-to place for all items when creating clothes.

Lacuna-pangan said on Thursday, April 11, that the fashion show will be held on June 19 as part of the activities for the celebration of the city’s founding anniversary on June 24.

She said the event will feature renowned and emerging local designers. It also aims to encourage amateur designers to show their talents in fashion.

“The ultimate goal is para itaas ang antas ng fashion designs sa

Pilipinas at bigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga bata na gustong pumasok sa industriya na ito, kaya thank you sa inyo for taking the challenge (The ultimate goal is to uplift the level of fashion designs in the country and give opportunities to youth who want to enter this industry, so thank you for taking the challenge),” the mayor told the designers.

She said that she is an avid fan of local designs and she visits “tiangges” or bazaars during her free time to buy clothes. She showed as an example the one she wore at the launch.

One of the established designers who will spearhead the event is Bang Pineda, who said that this year’s theme is “Texture, Textile, and Technique.”

Pineda urged designers to buy their materials in Divisoria and take photos in order to promote the place to other designers.

He also said that they are just as eager as the mayor to introduce the youth to the fashion industry.
