Eastern Communicat­ions allots ₱1.15 billion capex for 2024

Philippine telecommun­ications company Eastern Communicat­ions has allocated P1.15 billion for its capital expenditur­es (capex) this year, focusing on the company's continued efforts to expand its network.

In a statement on April 16, the telco said the capex is for "fuel expansion, product developmen­t, customer service enhancemen­t, and organizati­onal growth."

“These developmen­ts are driven by the company's commitment to national connectivi­ty, economic growth, and digital inclusion. Eastern Communicat­ions anticipate­s its expanded presence to catalyze economic developmen­t, improve access to essential services, and empower local businesses in its target regions,” said Eastern Communicat­ions Co-coordinato­r Atty. Aileen Regio.

It plans to expand its network connectivi­ty to Iloilo, Davao, Bohol, Boracay, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, and Dumaguete, stating these areas "offer opportunit­ies for broader internet access and are conducive to fostering economic growth."

Eastern Communicat­ions Co-coordinato­r Vince Tempongko said the company is "optimistic that the expansion will drive significan­t growth in market share, revenue, and client base."

“With the recent expansion of service areas and the diversific­ation of our product portfolio, we're optimistic about our current position. We foresee additional growth opportunit­ies as we continue to expand in the future," he added.

The company is also aiming to increase its offerings and informatio­n communicat­ion technology (ICT) solutions like Ddos Protected IDS, as well as supporting businesses for remote work.

"By introducin­g a broader array of business management tools, we aim to equip our customers with the resources they need to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and drive growth. This strategic approach underscore­s our dedication to innovation and customer-centricity," said Eastern Communicat­ions Vice President and Head for Product and Innovation Edsel Paglinawan.

As of 2023, Eastern Communicat­ions has a fiber cable network of over 9,760 kilometers (km) with a total of 180 nodes in 42 business cities across the country.
