LTO bares new sked for driver’s license renewal until end-June

THE Land Transportation Office on Tuesday released a scheduled renewal of motorists to claim their plastic cardprinted driver’s license, following the lifting of an injunction order by the Court of Appeals.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said they have to rush the schedule so that motorists could start claiming their plastic cards next week in time for the end of the long Holy Week break.

“That good news is from Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista,” Mendoza said.

“So I have already instructed our officials down to the regional level to prepare this list of schedules and finish it before Maundy Thursday. Our goal is to start the distribution process of the plastic-printed driver’s license next week,” he said.

Based on the LTO memorandum, the approved schedule for renewal are as follows: driver’s licenses with expiration dates of Apr. 1 to Aug. 31, 2023 and Apr. 1 to Apr. 30, 2024 are scheduled for renewal l from Apr. 15 to Apr. 30, 2024; driver’s licenses with expiration dates of Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2023 and May 1 to May 31, 2024 are scheduled on May 1 to May 31, 2024; and for driver’s licenses with expiration dates from Jan. 1 to March 31 2024 and June 1 to June 30, 2024 are scheduled for renewal from June 1 to June 30, 2024.

“Failure to renew the expiring driver’s license within the prescribed schedule shall render the license expired,” the memorandum read.

One million pieces of plastic cards were delivered to the LTO central office last March 25 when the appellate court ruled in favor of the Department of Transportation and LTO through the Office of the Solicitor General, lifting the writ of preliminary injunction issued by a Quezon City court in 2023.

The lower court stopped the delivery of 3.2 million remaining plastic cards that resulted in the mounting backlog of plastic-printed driver’s licenses at 4.1 million by the end of March.
