Central Luzon leads agri, fishery output—PSA

CENTRAL Luzon emerged as the top contributo­r to the Philippine­s’ value of production in agricultur­e and fisheries in 2023, accounting for 13.5 percent of the total at constant 2018 prices, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed Wednesday.

It said the national value reached P1.76 trillion.

Northern Mindanao and Western Visayas followed Central Luzon with shares of 10.1 percent and 9.4 percent, respective­ly.

Central Visayas, meanwhile, posted

the fastest annual growth in the sector at 7.6 percent. MIMAROPA Region and Eastern Visayas followed at 7.0 percent and 3.4 percent, respective­ly.

Bicol Region registered the steepest decline in the value of agricultur­al and fishery production at 7.6 percent. Western Visayas and SOCCSKSARG­EN also saw reductions of 5.7 percent and 4.3 percent, respective­ly.

The total value of crop production reached P1.00 trillion in 2023.

Northern Mindanao held the top spot with a share of 11.7 percent, followed by Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon at 10.6 percent and 9.7 percent, respective­ly. Central Visayas recorded the highest annual growth in crop production at 24.3 percent.

Livestock production, valued at P0.26 trillion, was led by CALABARZON (13.1 percent), Central Visayas (12.7 percent), and Northern Mindanao (11.3 percent). Central Luzon exhibited the highest year-on-year growth at 30.0 percent, followed by MIMAROPA Region (16.9 percent), Ilocos Region (14.1 percent), and CALABARZON (12.2 percent).

Poultry production, also valued at P0.26 trillion, was dominated by Central Luzon (27.0 percent), CALABARZON (19.3 percent), and

Northern Mindanao (9.5 percent). Eastern Visayas (24.2 percent), BARMM (11.24 percent), and MIMAROPA Region (11.19 percent) saw the most significan­t annual increases.

The total value of fisheries production amounted to P0.24 trillion. Central Luzon again emerged as a leader, contributi­ng 18.1 percent. MIMAROPA Region (28.9 percent), NCR (19.3 percent), and Caraga (6.3 percent) registered the highest annual growth in fisheries output.
