Public service program urges action on fraudulent social media annulment ads

-

IN A recent episode of CIA with BA, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano addressed alarming concerns regarding fraudulent activities proliferating on social media platforms, specifically focusing on the illicit offering of annulment services bypassing legal procedures.

During the show’s “Yes or No” segment, attention was drawn to individuals promoting annulment of marriage services that circumvent the established court system. Richard from the Mariteam highlighted this issue, expressing his apprehension.

“I came across an advertisement or post, stating, ‘annulment of marriage without court proceedings,’ claiming to handle everything without the need for appearances, is that legal?” he inquired.

“No. Absolutely not,” asserted the senator. “Ate Pia is rightfully outraged because of the blatant deception.”

He stressed, “The authorities must intervene urgently. That’s what Ate emphasized, ‘Let’s ensure action against these blatantly illegal entities on social media.’”

To address these fraudulent practices and protect individuals from harm, several proactive measures have been proposed. Firstly, victims or witnesses are encouraged to report such fraudulent activities to relevant authorities such as the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Secondly, individuals affected by fraudulent annulment services are advised to seek legal counsel to understand their rights and explore legal options against the perpetrators. Thirdly, it is essential to raise public awareness about the risks associated with fraudulent services on social media, as increased awareness can help prevent others from becoming victims of similar scams.

Lastly, victims of fraudulent annulment services may require both emotional and legal support, highlighting the importance of offering assistance and guidance to help them navigate the aftermath of such deceit.

By implementing these measures collaboratively, both individuals and authorities can effectively combat fraudulent activities and shield the public from harm.

CIA with BA continues the legacy of Senator Rene Cayetano, the father of the sibling senator-hosts Alan and Pia Cayetano. A distinguished lawyer, the senior Cayetano gained prominence through his radio and TV program Compañero y Compañera, which aired from 1997 to 2001.

Hosted by Alan, Pia, and Boy Abunda, CIA with BA airs every Sunday at 11:00 p.m. on GMA7, with replays on GTV the following Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
