- JAELLE NEVIN REYES

CIGNAL HD Spikers remain unbeaten in the 2015 Philippine Superliga Grand Pix after defeating the Foton Tornadoes, 25- 20, 25- 19, 16- 25, 25- 23, at the San Juan Arena late Thursday evening.

With the win, the HD Spikers tightened their grip of the top spot with an unblemished record of four wins. Defending champion and current second seed Petron Blaze Spikers, now holds a 3- 2 win- loss card.

Cignal exhibited their offensive prowess in the first two sets of the match, denying Foton of any chance of counterattack as they took an early twosets- to- nothing lead.

However, during the third set, the Tornadoes managed to turn the tides against the HD Spikers denying them of a sweep and sending the game to another set.

It went head-to-head in the fourth set of the meeting but Ariel Usher stepped up to propel her team to their fourth consecutive win in the competition.

Usher capped off her impressive display of skill with 29 points off of 22 attacks while her teammate April Hingpit added three points and 16 sets for Cignal.

The duo of Jaja Santiago and import Lindsay Stalzer combined for a final tally of 40 points in Foton’s second loss in three games.

Meanwhile, in the first game, the Philips Gold Lady Slammers beat the RC Cola Air Force Raiders in a five-set thriller, 23-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8, to capture their third win in the meet.
