A grand gathering for The Manila Times’ anniversary
IN the Philippines, there are but a few homegrown companies that have marked a sterling century. The case is even more rare in the publishing industry.
It is for this very reason that The Manila Times celebrated its 117th anniversary with a grand party on October 15 at Resorts World Manila’s Maxims Restaurant in Pasay City—a thanksgiving for another year of making and recording history in the Philippines.
Gathering close to 300 guests, The Times country’s oldest and leading newspaper anew among supporters, partners and of course the men and women behind this iconic publication.
In his speech, The Times’ Chairman Emeritus Dante A. Ang acknowledged everyone who helped him turn the paper around when he acquired the company in 2001, and toasted to better days ahead for the proud publication.
The Times President, CEO and Executive Editor Dante Ang 2nd, meanwhile, recognized the determined and steadfast leadership of the Chairman Emeritus, whom he described as the most low key steward of this historic paper. He recalled the success of his father in the publishing industry as one for the books.
Leading the assembly of well-wishers were representa- sector with guests from UnionBank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Landbank, and Maybank.
Loyal motoring advertisers were also present, among them representatives from Volvo, Peugeot, Mazda, Kia, PGA Cars, as well as developers Pro Friends, Ayala Land, and Empire East.
From government, there were guests from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Social Security System, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, and Philippine Charity
Major companies and advertisers such as Mercalco, United Laboratories, Smart Communications, and Mondelez Philippines, among many others were also represented.
Of course, the night was also a “family affair” gathering the employees of The Manila Times, and giving a face to everyone involved in churning out the daily issues of the paper both on print and online.
