DOST scholars shine
SCIENCE and technology (S&T) scholars from the Eastern Visayas received awards from the Department of Science and Technology- Region 8 for outstanding accomplishments in academics. The awarding night, titled “In Touch With Excellence,” was held May 10 at the Hotel Alejandro.
- ated magna cum laude were: Ben Fermin Abuda (Eastern Samar State University-Borongan), Niel Darryl Branzuela (Northwestern Samar State University-Calbayog), Carl Aljon Lacaba (Eastern Visayas State University-Tacloban), Geralyn Ando (Visayas State University [VSU]-Isabel Campus), all BSED-Mathematics majors; and Ryan Dave Sugano (BS Chemistry, [VSU]).
Meanwhile, three of the board placers aced the Geodetic Engineering licensure exams from VSU: Engr. Rex Doñoz (topnotcher, 2015), Engr. Bongbonga (Rank 4, 2015), and Engr. Rey Mark Alfante (Rank 6, 2014).
Darwin Gomez of the Eastern Visayas State University , was placed 8th in the 2012 Chemistry board exam and Sung Shin Woong-ill of the Leyte Normal University ranked 10th in the 2015 Licensure Examination for Teachers.
The 17 others who graduated cum laude include: BSED-Mathematics majors Alison Senobio (University of Eastern Philippines – Catarman), Jessamay Jabien (Samar State UniversityCatbalogan), Jefrey Asadon (ESSU – Borongan), Rosary Librilla and Ruby Rose Anne Panganod (LNU), and Jenilyn Samaco (VSU).
Cum laude awardees include scholars from the VSU, namely Bernadeth Balonga and Mary Jaica Maghanay (Food Technology), Jovie Mariel Degorio (BSED Physical Science), and Rabigh Kangleon, Mary Grace Saldino, Ryan Dave Sugano (BS Chemistry). Other cum laude awardees were from LNU, namely Neuville Florinth Lucrese Abenis (BS Biology), Ma. Lucille Abarracoso (BSED- Physical Science), and Nikko Fernandez and Eduardo Sivellita (BS Biology).
Other awardees were Carlo Jarito (BS Electrical Engineering, EVSUOrmoc) and Wency Dagayloan (BS Chemistry, EVSU-Tacloban).
Meanwhile, DOST-8 gave a toast to its staff achievers who completed their graduate studies. Recognized were Lucia Dauz and John Glenn Ocaña (Doctor of Management Technology), Amado Amasco Jr. and Veronica Laguitan (Master in Public Management), Debbie Delmo (Master of Public Management), Romeo Dignos (Master in Food Science and Technology), and Master of Technology Management graduates Emiel Prisco Discar, Maria Catherine Gonda, and Isabelita Pamposa.
Other MTM graduates namely Emmanuel Lagdamen, Florentino Quiñones, Marilyn Radam, Evelyn Tablante, and Ramil Uy were awarded the Gawad Parangal para sa Mag-aaral.
