Lewis stifles Blue Jays before Stubbs wins it with walk-off homer

ARLINGTON, Texas: Drew Stubbs homered just over the wall in left field to give the Texas Rangers a 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the bottom of the 10th on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at Globe Life Park.

It’s the Rangers’ first walk-off win in 2016 and the first time they’ve beaten the Blue Jays in the past five meetings. Stubbs’ homer came with two outs. He entered the game as a pinch-runner in the eighth.

Lewis held the Blue Jays to two runs on four hits and no walks over seven innings and left leading 5-2. Lewis struck out six, including the side in the second. Four of the six strikeouts were looking.

Ryan Goins homered in the third to pull Toronto to within 4-1.

The Jays scored again in the fifth after Troy Tulowitzki led off with a double and scored on Ezequiel Carrera’s single. Carrera was thrown out trying to score from third on a ground ball to shortstop Elvis Andrus. Lewis ended the inning with a 6-4-3 double play. It’s Lewis’ seventh quality start in eight games.

Jake Diekman started the eighth but left with two on and two outs before Sam Dyson forced a groundout to short to end the in- ning. Shawn Tolleson blew his third save in the ninth. Bautista doubled and Justin Smoak’s two-run homer made it 5-4 before Tulowitzki’s solo homer tied it at 5-5. In the 10th, Bautista doubled to deep left with two outs but Barnette retired Encarnacion to end the threat.

The first three Rangers reached in the second inning on walks by Mitch Moreland and Ryan Rua and a single by Elvis Andrus before Bobby Wilson homered to center field on the 11th pitch of his at-bat. It gave the Rangers a 4-0 lead. Rua tripled with two outs in the sixth and scored on a passed ball to push the Rangers lead to 5-2.
