P50-M SHABU SEIZED IN METRO MANILA RAID

POLICE arrested a suspected big-time drug pusher and recovered seven plastic bags of high- grade shabu, with estimated value of P50 million in a buy-bust on Friday in Pasig City (Metro Manila). Arrested was Saadodin Badron, 26, a native of Marawi City and residing at 35 Rawatan Street, 648- C. Palanca, San Miguel, Manila. The Eastern Police District (EPD) acting director, Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula, said the suspect had been under surveillan­ce for a week until the raid was carried out in Santolan, Pasig City. The high- grade shabu was found in transparen­t plastic bags inside Bardon’s black Mitsubishi Mirage. Similarly, other big-time drug dealers were arrested by members of the Pasig City Police Station at BCDA C5 Road, Taguig City also on Friday. Sapitula identified the suspects as Sukarno Bansil, 37, and Mahatir Malaco, 23, all from Upper Bicutan, Taguig City. Recovered from Bansil and Malaco were one kilo of shabu; a .45 caliber Norinco pistol loaded with eight pieces of live ammunition; and a Toyota Innova (ABH 2534). Sapitula said the two suspects were top drug traders in Metro Manila’s eastern area and nearby cities.

DEPED ORDER STAYS – BRIONES

THE Department of Education (DepEd) said an order mandating teachers to prepare a more detained lesson plan stays until Education Secretary Leonor Briones makes a final decision. In a statement, Briones said DepEd Order No. 42, Series of 2016 or Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparatio­n for the K-to-12 Basic Education Program was crafted to ensure that public school teachers deliver quality instructio­n based on the principle of sound instructio­nal planning. The guidelines, she added, also aims to help teachers come to their classes prepared. Research showed that common traits that effective teachers share are planning, preparing for and reflecting on their teaching. The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition earlier asked the Education department to reduce clerical tasks of public school teachers by allowing the use of simplified lesson plan preparatio­n and putting a halt to implementa­tion of DepEd Order No. 42.

SUSPECTS MOST WANTED FALL IN AURORA, PAMPANGA

THE No. 4 most wanted drug suspect in Aurora province was nabbed in a manhunt in Ramon town on Thursday. The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigat­ion and Detection Group (CIDG) director, Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, identified the arrested suspect as Crisanto Basa. Obusan said Basa, 63, was nabbed in Barangay San Miguel. Similarly, operatives of CIDG-Pampanga and Mabalacat City Police station collared Sando Laxamana, who is wanted for two counts of rape. Obusan said Laxamana was arrested also after a manhunt in Madapdap Resettleme­nt in Barangay Dapdap in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, where he is tagged as the No. 1 most wanted person.

ARMY NAMES NEW CHIEF SURGEON

THE Philippine Army on Friday announced the designatio­n of the former commander of the Presidenti­al Security Group (PSG) Station Hospital in Malacañang as the new Chief Army Surgeon to provide health services to soldiers and their dependents. Col. Ronaldo Cruz, a native of Marikina City (Metro Manila), replaced Col. Leland Rosa, who will soon be designated commanding officer of Camp Evangelist­a Station Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City. Cruz also served as commanding officer of the PSG Station Hospital from July 2010 to July 2016. He was command surgeon of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division in Cagayan de Oro City from 2004 to 2007, and the Philippine Military Academy from 2008 to 2010. Cruz, 54, graduated with a Zoology degree from Far Eastern University and finished Medicine at Lyceum Northweste­rn University in March 1981. He also completed the Health Care Service Delivery Management Program at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City (Metro Manila) in September 2005. The Office of the Army Chief Surgeon is a unit under the military’s Technical and Administra­tive Service.
