Zamalek coach resigns after Sundowns loss

- AFP

CAIRO: Zamalek coach Mohamed Helmi has resigned after the Egyptian giant’s 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, while captain Hazem Emam has been suspended over an altercation with a team member.

Zamalek chief Mortada Mansour announced in a late Wednesday press conference that he accepted Helmi’s resignation and had appointed Mohamed Salah as interim coach.

He added that he decided to suspend Hazem Emam after he allegedly brandished a table knife in a team member’s face.

The team will square off against twice African champions Enyimba on August 14 in the CAF Champions League.
